The Grand Canyon stretches through northwestern Arizona and there are few places in the world that can be characterized by such stunning visual size, complex landscape and unreal beauty.
With its deep gorges and sharp edges it is part of the Colorado River Basin and stretches for 277 miles.
The Grand Canyon of Colorado was discovered by a Spanish expedition in 1540. However, due to the very inaccessible terrain, it was not possible to fully explore the canyon at that time. It was only after more than three centuries that the technological possibilities for more detailed exploration of the canyon were created. The strength of the water of the Colorado River has influenced this magnificent gorge for thousands of years.
In some places it looks like a magical city built of rock, with temples, towers and castles of lavish colors.
In 1963, a dam was built on the Colorado River not far from this area, which almost interrupted the natural flow of water and sand into the canyon. At that time, a project was implemented which released more than 380 billion liters of water from the dam and thus prevented endangering the beauty of this tourist and natural wonder of Arizona. The artificial flood brought all the natural elements needed to maintain the exterior of the Grand Canyon.
With the status of an icon of the United States, it is one of the world’s largest natural attractions, attracting about five million visitors a year.
