For more than 10 years, Amber has been a companion. We got her from the County Animal Control facility, not knowing anything about her life other than she probably lived on the streets and had puppies at some time. The vet estimated she was about 30 months old.
It didn’t take long to realize she was an ‘outdoor’ dog and would chase anything that ran. She was not wise to the cholla and ended up in the pet hospital twice to be sedated so the spines could be pulled from her mouth and tongue. She eventually learned to avoid them, and became a ‘trail dog’ and joined me on many hikes.
Amber lost her eyesight early in 2019 but remained a great companion until late in 2020 when her health deteriorated and her kidneys started to fail. Her suffering ended on March 5, 2021.
Amber was a friendly dog and travelled with us when we visited family in Boise and Irvine. She definitely was not a lap dog but seemed to enjoy getting close to people and being part of the family. She was not a swimmer, but would go into the water to cool down, as long as her feet would touch bottom.
